Attention: Sagkeeng (Fort Alexander) Day Scholars

Please be advised that on February 3, 2016, the Sagkeeng Chief and Council, on behalf of the Fort Alexander Indian Band Day Scholars and Descendants, joined the Class Action Day Scholar Lawsuit with the TK’emlúps te Secwepemc and the shíshálh Nation in British Columbia seeking compensation for losses related to their attendance at federally operated Indian Residential Schools.

On June 3, 2016, Sagkeeng was advised that the Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc and the shíshálh Nation have agreed to enter into negotiations with Canada on behalf of the Day Scholars. Participating Nations must determine the number of Day Scholars (survivors) and the Descendants (children only) of the survivors. Sagkeeng is to provide this information by July 15, 2016.
