Wood Smoke in First Nations Homes

sfn

The Chief and Council authorized a research team from the University of Manitoba to conduct a pilot study entitled “Wood Smoke in First Nations Homes: Its Effect on the Respiratory Health of Children and its Impact on School Attendance.” The research team visiting homes will involve the inspection and monitoring of indoor air quality in homes as well as access to privacy-protected relevant housing, health, and education data.

The results from this study will benefit the community to make informed decisions about the quality of the home and the urgent need for renewal of housing stock. The community will receive a full inspection report for each of the houses examined, including a structural, mechanical, and an electrical assessment of each house at no cost to the community.

The research group would like to get youth involved in educational videos on what can be done to better the homes indoor air quality.
